We’re excited to launch a new segment, Founder's POV, where we’ll be sharing our personal journey of growing The Original UnBraider. We believe it’s important to take you behind the scenes and show you what it really takes to build a business, from the highs to the challenges. This journey is ours, but it’s also yours because we’re all in this together, working to create something that truly makes a difference.
The Black Ambition Prize was one of the most intense and rewarding experiences we’ve had so far. The application process alone was a challenge—two detailed forms and a video where we had to explain our vision for The Original UnBraider. But it wasn’t just about getting through the paperwork; it was about telling our story and showcasing why we’re so passionate about our product.
When we were selected, it felt like a huge win. We were placed into pods and paired with mentors who could help us refine our approach and think bigger. I was incredibly lucky to be mentored by Olivia Griffian, Chief of Staff at Serena Ventures. Her guidance was invaluable, offering a new perspective on everything from pitch decks to fundraising to the overall vision of the company. I learned so much about the investment side of the business and how to think strategically for long-term growth. Olivia’s insight was a game-changer, helping us focus on the bigger picture and how to position ourselves for success.
One of the highlights was connecting with other founders, like Ashley Harmon from Mela Vitamins, who inspired me with her story. Seeing the determination in other entrepreneurs who are pushing boundaries was truly motivating, reminding me that we’re all working toward a shared goal—building brands that serve our communities and create lasting impact.
While we didn’t make it to the final round to compete for the $1 million grand prize, the experience has been priceless. It wasn’t just about the prize—it was about the connections, the lessons learned, and the confidence we gained. This journey has made me a better founder, and more importantly, it’s reinforced my commitment to building a company that doesn’t just succeed, but thrives in serving the community we care so deeply about.
The Black Ambition Prize experience has already had a profound impact on how we’ll grow The Original UnBraider moving forward. We’re more focused than ever on building a brand that values quality, community, and empowerment. And though this chapter is just one piece of the puzzle, it’s one that will continue to shape the future of our growing company. Thank you for being part of this journey with us. We’re just getting started!
